Day 175 of My Crazy Journey

Sumptuous Surfaces

I am taking the Sumptuous Surfaces class with SharonB at Pintangle.

Weeks 1, 2 and 3 involve design using concept, form and content.

I ‘mindmapped’ an idea I had around my granddaughter Freya and her love of fairies.   I have been thinking about making a journal cover for her and I thinks this will be ideal.

I then formed my CONCEPT.   My take on fairies – translucent, shining, ethreal and magical.

I photocopied a small wooden button to use in the design.

FORM

I will applique some shiny fabric for the fairy’s wings, attaching it with Misty Fuse and outline stitch.  the fairy will be outlined only.  the ‘sky’ type background, the low relief areas, will be made up of pulled thread stitches.  The ground area will be the high relief area.  I’m not sure whether I need to show the low and high relief areas in more detail at the design stage but I feel these may be rather organic, developing as I go.

CONTENT

Not sure, what do you think?

Day 136 of My Crazy Journey

CQJP Challenge – Block 3

More detail on the March block

The green lace is some cheap polyester that I painted with acrylic paint then heat set it by drying with my hairdryer.

I have attached the lace with straight stitches woven in gold thread and shiny gold beads.  For the herrinbone stitch I used rayon thread and the French knots are three strands of Anchor stranded cotton.

The green material was made to look like drops of rain.  The heart was appliqued onto  the block then I covered the edge with sead beads.

Day 129 of My Crazy Journey

Wow!!!  April already.  I have begun my new block for CQJP 2012

CQJP Challenge – Block 4

Bock 4 waiting to be stitched.

CQJP Challenge – Block 3

I designed this detail myself.  The inspiration came from an old door handle on St Clement’s Church, Horsley.

This door handle at St Clements, Horsley, Derbyshire really caught my eye so I took a picture.  I made a tracing and put it into my design journal.  I then made a sketch of a design.  I few days later I realised that I could include the embroidered design onto my March block.  I decided that having a dangle of beads would not work for a table-runner so I clustered them in the centre of the button instead.

Day 127 of My Crazy Journey

CQJP 2012

CQJP Challenge – Block 3

More details

Very simple buttonhole stitch with a two lengths pattern.  I developed this from my TAST  sampler.   This stitch is ideal for holding down the seam.

I got the inspiration for this detail from a sweater of mine.  The flower is a large sequin sewn on with a pearl type bead.  The stem is made up of tubular beads and the leaf from shiny seed beads.

Blogging

I have brought home ‘Blogging For Dummies’ from the library.  If I have time to study and impliment it, there may be some different things happening on here.

Day 126 of My Crazy Journey

It is a long time since I last posted on my blog.   It seems to be about once a month but I would much rather it be more, I’ll work on it!!!

CQJP Challenge – Block 3

Here is the completed block, managed to catch up at last.

This detail was inspired by the TAST challenge – week 11 – Whipped Wheel stitch and week 9 – Couching

More detail tomorrow
